Not just a Burro is musing on their future with Elite Dangerous…

In my post yesterday I explained how I had grown bored of Elite Dangerous and was taking a long break. It seems I’m not the only one as Kate Russell had blogged about similar feelings of needing a break until more (taste appropriate) content is added. Like me she also still loves the game as a whole and plans to go back.

The Beep Beep Boop post editing system seems a bit… shit, if I’m honest.

I didn’t mind when WordPress added in the Beep Beep Boop alternate post editing page because there was a link that said “Click me if you want to use the old editing page” and when I clicked it the Beep Beep Boop page went the fuck away like a bad smell being sucked out of a car window.

But now that link is no more! WordPress, annoyed with their users failure to love the ginger step child they have created after one too many expensive hipster coffee jams, have decided we must all be forced to use the Beep Beep Boop Bollocks because we are too fucking stupid and ungrateful to know what is best for us.

Sigh. Look, I love you WordPress. I even loved you enough to move my blog from Google and I bloody love Google! But blocking me from using a perfectly good dashboard in favour of the bag of poo that Beep Beep Boop seems to be related to is not my idea of repaying my slavering, blind love. No, making me use Beep Beep Boop means that I can no longer get a simple wp.me link (something that took 2 seconds and now takes a lot longer and involves sharing to a tweet and then C&Ping the wp.me link out of that tweet so I can post it somewhere useful) and I can no longer copy a post (something I had come to rely on hugely as it saved me much time and help ensure I didn’t miss tabs and categories).

It turns out I can get back to the old dashboard and posting format by using the following link (https://headburroantfarm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) but really that is a faff and WordPress is becoming very faffy these days.

As much as it pains me to say it, it may well be time to quit WordPress once and for all and head over to Blogger again. It’s been a good 10 years WP, but frankly my time is limited and my patience wears thinner with age. I’m going to have a peek over the hill and see if the grass is any greener (and if Google have stopped Blogger being a fugly sack of kak). I might stay, I might not. Loyalty isn’t what it once was, but that runs both ways I think you’ll find.

More Adventures in Elite Dangerous (aka Further Tales From The Frontier)

I’m not the only one from the Elite Dangerous Google+ community blogging about their adventures in game – here are some more:

LOTROTOXIC

‘You’re toxic I’m slipping under
With a taste of a poison paradise
I’m addicted to you
Don’t you know that you’re toxic
And I love what you do
Don’t you know that you’re toxic’
Britney Spears – Toxic

Listen HERE (if you really want…)

I wrapped up the toxic pond sampling quests… I really want to know why so many spirits were just hanging around…maybe queuing up for tickets for a Down Among the Dead Men concert?

Who has been pissing

So who was polluting the ponds?

Dance to Britney

Well now I have to go and find out: Further Upstream

And some old screenies of earlier on in Angmar…

04Stone of Clucath Tsukuld finds a rock!

Illuminated The dark airs of Angmar has given Tsukuld a lovely, ‘healthy’ glow!

Tsukuld also continued the Epic Quests in Angmar completing Book VI, VII and starting book VIII.

As always they send you on trips around ME as if there…

Whilst over in Minecraft… Building Pirate Cove – Day 0

As I mentioned in a post a while back, my lad and I are building a pirate land in MCPE and although we have started filming that using a seed on his tablet, I decided to film the same seed on my tablet so you could see what the world looked like before we hacked the Dickens out of it and filled it full of pigs 🙂

You can follow the slow progress of this world over on his blog here. Obviously he’s not writing that at the moment but maybe he’ll take over when he’s older.

Meanwhile, in Survivalcraft… Ohhhh, a truth table! I see the logic of that!

In my last post on this subject I said that I had no idea what Kaalus was on about in his post. I still don’t, but my old SL mate Dale has shown me the light and in doing so opened my eyes to the potential of Kaalus’s Truth Table and maybe even revealed a little of where the talented Survivalcraft dev is going with his huge logic system overhaul.

In a nutshell, which is how simple souls such as I like things delivered, the ‘truth table’ will allow you to set an output condition from up to four (more of you chain tables & system together) input conditions. Which is to say…

Imagine you are creating an adventure map for other players to play through and you want to build a system whereby the player has to flick a switch in one part of the map, trigger a pressure plate in another and activate a sensor in a third before you will allow a door to open and then add the fact that this door will only open at night – well how would you do that? The truth table, that’s how! The switch, the pressure plate, the motion detector and the light sensor could all be wired up to the truth table and you could set the table to output a 1 to a door (which would open the door) only when all four of the inputs (switch, plate, & both sensors) are outputting a 1 at the same time!

Now maybe imagine another puzzle where playing certain notes in a number of different music systems would give you the right combinations of outputs for the truth table to open a door to escape… or release a pack of werewolves into the maze… or reveal the next clue… or set off a series of timed explosives that are working their way towards you right now!

These are just the ideas that have occurred to me today and I’m not a very creative soul so you can imagine what the clever players out there will come up with! This will make adventure maps very powerful, I think 🙂

Now it’s true that I can’t see much use for all this logic in the current (1.22) survival game, but if Kaalus ever adds mechanical blocks such as pistons and engines, and moving blocks such as carts and rail bogies then I can see a real potential for sophisticated mining rigs that could turn a laborious dig into a useful quarry controlled from afar and responding to inputs such as transportation & storage availability. Now that really would be giving MC a run for its money! Let’s hope Kaalus is turning his attention to mechanics after his electrics update in 1.23 🙂

Meanwhile, in Survivalcraft… Feed the beast!

In the next (1.23) update to Survivalcraft, Kaalus is adding a fun new mechanic to some of the animals; stubbornness! Apparently the horses will start refusing riders too 😀
