Google+ Communities looks nice…

I’m sure that G+ Communities aren’t new, but I’m still finding my way around the whole shebang and hadn’t noticed them until the always awesome Daniel Voyager invited me to his SL themed one. I can see there are a few for Minecraft Pocket Edition but none for Survivalcraft yet.

And no, I’m not going to start one. My days of Yahoo Groups and Cthulhu forums are well behind me now. I’ll join, maybe, but I’ll not be starting one.

  1. I started a G+ Community for local Ingress players. It was invite only and worked pretty well. Later I joined a few public communities about broader topics such as a particular Android ROM or Hip-Hop. They were not as useful. Mostly they were choked with random spam and the types of people that comment on Kaalus’ posts.

Based on my experience I think they’re useful for specific, highly moderated or invite only topics but I quickly left all the public communities I had joined.

    1. Ah, Ingress! I have that on my phone too but I am too office bound to have really used it. I’m hoping I’ll have more time this summer to go out and about with The Boy and try it out 🙂

      1. I’ve since uninstalled it and left the community. It can be fun to meet other players and coordinate activities but ultimately it’s a grind for no real gain. Foursquare with a better back story. All signs indicate that it’s more about Google testing a new advertising tool rather than an actual game.

        1. Ahhh, I thought as much but not having had any chance to try it I’ve only ever been on the very edges so far. To be honest, I’m not much for yomping around town so I probably will never really get into it 😀
