Ghosts in the deep…

Note: This post was first written in July 10 but not posted until February 11 and as such I can’t promise the area is still haunted – pop over and see

My mate Nish first alerted me to ghosts in SL a couple of years ago – she was hunting them back then, looking for dots on the map where there were no people or finding avs that were trapped between planes. Over the years I’d forgotten about her quest until a few weeks ago when I happened to notice an odd collection of dots in a strange, old mainland sim called Cyclops.

Cyclops lies at the very top of the north west corner of Sansara, the first continent, and is the start of a short run of single-width sims that links Sansara with the second continent of Heterocera (formed by a meteor strike and discovered by Magellan, dontcyaknow). There is nothing there – it’s just sea, ocean without islands or ships or anything. Hell, there’s not even any mole built ‘stuff’ in the sea (the Moles and LDPW always sem to bring the seas they work in to life, like they did in Murray) so what the hell were the dots all about? LittleLostLinden has an interesting theory about Linden Lab tolerating bots as they pump the ‘online now’ numbers up… could these be bots like the ones I found near the Valley of The Burros in Nutsedge? Or could they be poor, lost souls condemned to wander (or rather stand stock still on) the bottom of the ocean forever? You decide…

Bots in Linden Land? Surely not…

I was chillaxin’ (literally freezing an axe – don’t ask me why, you don’t want to know) over at my ever so lovely Linden Slum when I noticed a collection of green dots in my sim (Nutsedge, remember) on my minimap. Now seeing as I don’t see many green dots on my minimap in Nutsedge (or anywhere else if I’m honest) I thought I’d go and see what was going on and if they’d let me join in.

So imagine my disappointment as I found not a happening party of cool jiving cats and came across found a nest of zombie-eyed creepy bots instead! Thank the lords above for the barrier holding the buggers back!

Look at their eyes! Pass me the shotgun, mother!

p.s. Is it me, or does that one in the hat look like the burnt fella living in St Helens?

Valley of The Burros (or Fek Me! I’ve Got a Linden Home!)

I’ve gone Premium. After three and a half years in-world I’m paying The Man. I didn’t want to, I did it to help out Cowell & Kahruvel (more of that in a future post) but in the process I got a Linden Home. Pity me?

I plumped for one of the California Living ones(1) and had hoped that I’d get one in the hills or by some water. Fat chance! I’m in the middle of a slum. A nice slum yes, but a slum non-the-less. At one point I flew two sims east and couldn’t tell the difference and then got lost on the way back – I was stood two houses away from mine and still couldn’t find it!

Anyway, it’s not all bad: my sim is called Nutsedge. I know the yanks may be thinking I mean nuts as in crazy, but honestly I just mean testicles. I’m British, I laugh when someone says “Winnie the Pooh”. Poo. Heh.

Anyways, take a look at my Valley of the Burros…

Errrmmm, Where do I live? Is it there? Or there? There maybe? Nope… not a fucking clue…

(1) I *had* thought I’d want a Japanese style one (I certainly didn’t want a frigging Super Mario Castle!) but they looked a bit naff. Well, they all look that, but at least the LA ones have two floors and I like that in a house – I blame growing up in a bungalow
