Boating Around Murray

Murray, ahhh Murray. Shining jewel of the inland sea (well, *near* the inland sea) where the Moles have been busy and Burros slightly less so. The LDPW has long ago moved on to fix up other sims and I’ve been tardy about exploring all the shiny new aspects of my old home – well no more! I popped back in to take a trip around the old homestead in one of Naughty Mole’s free yachts…
Murray

I took it for a spin past the beach huts, the channel here is narrow and I pranged the rudder a fair few times so be warned!
Murray

It looks like a much larger vessel may have tried a while back and now only its rotting carcass marks the spot where it ran aground…
Murray

At least the previous (and I hope long gone!) owners were good enough to leave a little something behind ;-)

Sailing into deep(er) water I noticed three creates bobbing on the surface…

When I got to them I could see something beneath the waves… time to dive!

It seems these waters used to be a whole lot rougher than they appear to be now – yet another wreck was half-buried in the sand and silt with flooded crates now no more than homes for some very cute wildlife :)

Pop over to Murray and explore for yourself – the locals are (mostly) friendly and you’ll be slap-bang in the middle of SL’s first sims :)

Come Visit Murray By The Sea (Moles not included…)

Time for an update on Murray, my old home, I think. What? You agree? Goodo!

Well, I popped over recently and found that Naughty Mole has added a metric tone of plants to beautify the place as well as some rather lovely paths with half a mountain of buried stones. She’s also added some Brighton style beach huts and one of them is a nifty place for changing your appearance – try it, it’s pretty clever :)

Whilst there I bumped into Naughty Mole (who’s been charged with renovating the old infohub) and her colleague Silent Mole (who looked a little different the last time I met her :-D ) and they were working on the cool toobs (they were updating the scripts in them, but they were using original Ben Linden toobs from 2004!

Murray Rebooted?

I may have mentioned my old home of Murray once or twice but as I stopped going there some time ago I’ve not heard anything about the small spit of land that was once so important to me. Until a few nights ago that is when I received an IM from my old mate Douglas Quinn…

“Have you seen Murray?” he asked.

“Err, not recently,” said I somewhat confused.

“The Moles are doing it up! It’s all gone Tiki!”

Tiki, thunk I? Tiki? Tiki as in Lovely Azure South Seas Washing That Man Right Out Of My Hair Everything Bamboo Grass Skirts And The Like Tiki? Bloody hell… this I had to see.
Murray: The New Info Hub

Murray

Now let me make a couple of things clear, I’m happy the Moles are tarting up Murray and I have nothing against Tiki. But do I think Murray should be a Tiki info hub? Not really. But then am I mad that it certainly looks like it will be? Nah it’s all good. Let’s face it, since the Lab closed the Murray infohub and removed all the seats and signs in late ‘06/early ’07 Murray has been nothing but grass, dirt, a few mangy trees and a shit load of griefing. Hell, even when we (finally) got the Lindens to come over and shut down the build & script perms on the land Murray so the weapons-headz couldn’t cage and warp us all to buggery and back, the place was still only as pretty as a pig, and a pretty plain pig at that.

But having said all that, I can’t help thinking that the old girl deserves better than to be dolled up like some kind of set for “America’s Next Love Island!” so I hope the Moles treat her gently. Still, at least she’ll be home to a whole new cohort of people who will love her for what she is, not what she was. And being slap bang in the middle of some of the oldest builds in SL, I hope they explore and discover more about their new world like I did. Like I say, it’s all good :)

Farewell Murray, you served us well. In your place let Murray 3.0 rise from the sands and may everyone who finds it anew be served with a drink in a coconut husk to celebrate its new life! :-D

A Tardis or Two in Murray

I popped into Murray recently and was really pleased to see some old friends – Sjet & Christina. Christina is a very talented builder who makes SF film and show-based vehicles including a working Tardis from the brilliant Dr Who TV series. She has just updated the system to add more Tardis versions including the terrifying Bad Wolf model…

…a Dalek timepod version…

…and a very seasonal Christmas version!

Pop over to her shop, Vortech Enterprises in Deception to see all of her stuff :)

In Other News: My Adopted Home

We all have a home when we beam into the mainland. These days they are usually one of the adopted homes like NCI or the great hobo place Cal-somethingorother (I’m crap with names), but when I joined nearly a year ago, I dropped into Braunsworth. Can’t say I liked it, can’t say I hated it – I was new and didn’t understand what was going on, and my connection was slower then so it was largely greyed out for me. I didn’t stay. I wandered. I couldn’t settle and by January this year I was ready to chuck it in. Then I found Murray.

Murray is the back end of nowhere. Bordering some the first land around in SL (Lusk, Rodeo, Gibson, etc.) , it was once a Linden supported welcome area until, around December last year, the welcome area stuff was deleted and it became a patch of wasteland with some sea attached. In January, I was TPing about looking for a new, quiet place to set as my home point when I found Murray. A now reformed griefer called Forbid Utoid caged me within seconds. It seems incredible now, but I was a griefing virgin back then and I had no idea what had haapened.

After the third time the little sod got me, I decided that discretion was by far the better part of valor and I took ten minutes out to google such things until I felt able to stop him. By the time I came back, he’d started on some poor French newbie girl who was very upset and a blonde lass called Pinkie. Pinkie was to become my first really good friend in SL so I guess I have to thank Forbid for something :)

After we skelped his arse, she introduced me to her friends in Murray, her home, and I’ve hung around there ever since, although much less of late because a lot of us have our own land now. The early days were fun, making so many good friends, rumbling with newbie cagegun griefers, and hanging out chatting around campfires, sofas and whatever people had in their inventories. Apart from a couple of tosspot griefers (one called Max who used to announce he was “The King of Murray” – a real sap), it was always a nice atmosphere and recently, for one night only, we reclaimed the past.

This post is for my Murray mates – Pinkie, Janey, Anni, Rusty, Ash, Andy, Ali, Hessa, Stef, Ree, Alph – for being such fun. And in a weird way for Forbid for making me stay and Max for being such a total prick he united everyone in hating him and taking the piss out of him at every chance we got.
