The Show Must Go On… being web 2.0(ish)!

tsmgo-logo

Hola peeps – just a short post today to alert you to two things:

1) The wonderous wonderment that is The Show Must Go On has had a bit of a web 2.0 moment and gone and gotten itself a blog, flickr and twitter. Surf on over and feel the throbbing white heat of our technology*

2) I’ve finally gotten around to writing my own page for the show and you can bathe in the information shower it billows out at you, here.

That is all peeps – move along, you have a TSMGO blog to read and twitter to follow…

All at sea to see what I could see

Wow! The Hunting Magellan forums have lit up again with a new possible sighting of the ill-famed suff – this time a bottle has been found bobbing in the recently gridded waters of the ocean sims east of Nautilus that made up Blake Sea. Spotted in ‘Blake Sea – Indian‘. The bottle contained a garbled message seemingly from the pilot of a downed plane. Now whilst this carelessness with transportation did indeed sound like our man, the few words that could be made out in the message did not:

Please rescue ~~~ ~~ name ~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ and I’m a pilot for the Blake Sea ~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ crashed, and I’m stuck on a tro~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ in ~~~ ~~~~~ part of the Blake Sea.
The plane went down near ~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~.  My EPIRB must be broken.  I’m tired of eating fish!

I went right out there as soon as I could (photo record here) but couldn’t decide if it was from Magellan or not – my gut says it isn’t… watch this space!

P.S. For more about the hunt, check out my Magellan Linden page which has all the links you’ll need to join the hunt and help us find the drunken old misery.

Left4Dead: An Ending…

As regular readers (hello mum*) will know, I’ve been playing a lot of Left4Dead of late and I finally got around to filming one of the climatic battles to show how insane it can be. This is a good example (although I apologise about the quality – any better or bigger and it suddenly jumps from 30Mb to over 180Mb – I don’t understand video…) as it shows the battle for surviabl at the end of a great chapter called Dead Air where the four survivors battle through the city to get to the airport only to find it all but destroyed. All four chapters follow this pattern with rescue being the point of the final battle, be it by heilcopter, plane, boat or arny truck. If you like gaming (and I know i’s not everyone’s cuppa) then I urge you to try this and come fight with me – just search for HBA (UK)

Please note: Before viewing this it is very violent and gory and realistic – not for the weak of stomach.
p.s. I’ve changed the link to show a bigger, better quality one – be warned it is 132Mb!

* HA! My mum is the last prson on Earth who would read my drivel – she’s right behind my dad.

Dancing the night away

I popped in world last night – can’t remember what for, just popped in and immediately wished I hadn’t. Recent events haven’t exactly made me want to be there, but at the same time I have a pull I can’t ignore. Anyhoo, as I’ve been twittering like a leaky tweet duct of late, I decided to pop over to Ordinal Malaprop’s shop and re-acquire her free (but drop her a tip if you get one) in-world twittering device, the TwitterBox.

After attaching and setting up (and tweeting) I was at a loss once again for something to do. Well, plenty to do, but all such lonesome activities that I just found I simply could not be bothered. For a wandering mantelope, I’m actually very social creature, you see. So, what to do? I pulled the map and stared at just how big Caledon had become (I still recall when it was but a few sims and I planned to explore and write about them all – I never got to it and now it is HUGE!). As with all places in SL, the map was almost empty of the green dots that represent people except for two places. One I knew was the newbie rezzing area and so, in a spirit of pure nosiness, I headed to the other.

The TP brought me out some distance from the gathering and as the sim slowly rezzed around me I walked over to it only to find a mall party in full swing. Some names stood out – Alfonso Avalanche, Fuschia Begonia & Emily Orr – from my days of trawling the blogs of SL looking for a new home many, many moons ago (in the end, I made my own home and met Enjah & Os) and I was warmly welcomed and invited to dance the night away at the horror-themed Friday the 13th celebration. I had a great time and found that just some honest fun was just what the doctor ordered – I’ll put some pics below but I also took a quick film of us all dancing that I’ll try and upload and add later.

Caledon Friday 13th Party

If in doubt, find a party and have a laugh – highly recommended :)

Edit: Here’s the rough (very!) FRAPS footage – this is not meant to be a work of art, just I had to capture the joy of the line dancing :) The DJ was live and very funny – I don’t go to enough parties in SL!

Burro on the hoof

For a bit now I’ve had a fancy tinterwebz phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia) and my plans have been to post more usinng it. Except I haven’t. It’s mainly down to the WordPress blogging system not working well on the mobile IE & Opera browsers. So I’ve been looking for a nice, easy app that lets me blog from the phone without surfing to my blog or its dashboard.

Step forward moBlog! Easy to install, set up and use, I’m enjoying this my first test post so much I may even send some spodoolicks the author’s way :)

If you need a solution for your pocket pc or smartphone, then you can take a look at it here: http://sampath.wordpress.com/moblog

Octo Love

Oktapodi is a great little animation by Talantis Films is up for an Oscar – I really hope it wins :)

Edit: TY to the peeps pointing out it had been taken down – here is the main site where you can see it. And thanks to Sal for pointing out it looks like it was filmed in Cowell – that’s what I meant to say in the first post, but speed over haste g0t the better of me :)

p.s. Pity the company keeps taking clips down on YouTube – I mean it’s not like anyone can seriously pirate the film from the quality on YT, so they should leave at least one YT site up (maybe open their own – oh how very web 2.0 of me) so people could link, embed and spread the word. Fules.

Pleasure is shadow…

A few weeks ago, following a post on Os’ blog I downloaded the excellent client from Kirstenlee Cinquetti and for the first time since the rumour mill started months and months ago I’ve actually been able to see shadows in SL!

Here they are in Murray, my adopted home:
Shadows in Murray

And here they are on good old HBA Island:
Shadows on HBA Island

I’ve not had more time to explore the world with these additions, but rest assured, I will – how can I ignore such an opportunity for beautiful photos :-D

P.S. Once you have the viewer you’ll need to alter a few debug settings – NWN has a guide here.

P.P.S. Fek me – Kirstenlee has left SL and her blog is busted :( Read more at NWN here.
